Overview
The course will greatly improve your ability to communicate in English in a wide range of business situations, develop the communication skills you need to succeed in business and will enlarge your knowledge of the business world. Everybody study this course is expected to become more fluent and confident in using the language of business and should increase their career prospects.
Learning Outcomes
The course is designed to enlarge your knowledge of the business world and develop the essential communication and language skills needed in business contexts. It aims to build competence, fluency and confidence in handling telephoning, socializing, negotiating, meetings and presentations.
Assessment:
The following items will be assigned during the semester and used to calculate the student’s final grade
l Two Presentations
Students will be required to lead two formal presentations. Your presentation will be critiqued on the rubric prepared by the instructor, which puts great emphasis on content, organization, effectiveness, preparation, delivery and teamwork skills. Please sign up for presentation time and make appointments to discuss the topic with the instructor and your teammates at least one week before you give the presentation.
l Composition
Students will be required to complete several composition exercises during the semester applying the rules covered in the text. These are compositions so there will be no research involved. Each composition must be written in the student’s own words and typed using Word or WordPad. Ten points will be deducted for each day if a composition is submitted late.
l Attendance & Participation
Lateness or absence is not allowed, students who are absent for five or more will not be qualified to gain the credits. The teachers have right to grade students according to their participation during the classes.
Your participation in class discussions, role plays and group projects is important and is an essential part of your grade. Students are expected to take an active role in class activities and remember your contribution to the activities benefits everybody including you. Simulation games will be given to check for understanding of homework and class lectures.

The grading scale for this course is as follows: Two Presentation 40%, Compositions 30%, and Attendance & Participation 30%
