Overview
This is a course using literature as a background for improving writing, reading and translating skills. Students discuss the general nature and elements of literature and literary criticism by reading and analyzing representative works of fiction, essay and novel. Based on this subject matter, students are required to write a variety of critical papers and analyze the grammar structure and the relating exercises. This course is suitable for those students interested in literature and in improving strong critical and analytical writing and reading skills.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, students should be able to:
l Read, summarize and critically interpret literary works of fiction, novel and essay
l Write clear and coherent essays on expository and argumentative topics related to literature, using the elements and characteristics of that literature
l Interpret representative examples of the standard literary genres and analyze them according to basic literary theories
l Read academic expository and argumentative literary criticism related to literary topics for main points, interpretation, meaning and structure and summarizes, interpret and analyze this criticism
l Write college research papers that demonstrate both proper documentation and adequate library research
l Evaluate and apply critical thinking in the process of reading and writing as well as in class discussion
l Interpret influence of literary context including historical, social, political and cultural perspectives
l Make use of the knowledge of the world to make sense of the written text;
l Acquire, extract and organize information relevant to specific tasks;
l Understand different feelings, views and attitudes;
