    Overview
    l          Content and objectives
    Combining intensive and extensive listening ,the listening course aims at training students in listening and understanding audio-taped materials ,soundtrack, news (VOA, BBC, etc) and various programs ,in the form of conversations, interviews, short exchanges or other speech events that deal with different topics. This class will help you increase your ability to understand both formal and informal varieties of English and retain and utilize what you have understood.  It focuses on English for academic purposes, but there will still be listening training in other areas.

    Assessment of Student Learning Outcomes is achieved by the following means:
    l          CLASSWORK
    Classes will involve a variety of listening exercises and some discussions of the grammatical and sound systems of English.  You will listen to lectures and other spoken materials on videotapes, Internet websites and DVDs.  Since there is a definite relationship between listening and speaking, you will be expected to participate actively in all class and small group discussions.
    HOMEWORK
    Short optional and required assignments will use listening materials available on the Web or audio or videotaped materials.
    l          Take a daily note while listening to lectures, conversations and news stories
    followed by identification of main ideas.
    l          Submission of weekly journals via the internet reporting on service learning
    experiences.
    l          Assignments from the textbook, news materials, soundtrack, etc after listening via multimedia.

    Assessment
    The mid-term and final examination is adopted in this course. The coursework is assessed in terms of attendance, group discussion in class and homework.
