    Hi everybody:
"Please answer the following question and write about a thousand words and include at least two of the relavant diagrams from Chapter 15:
"Working in Groups of no more that 4 people please identify the characteristics of a formal, successful team. You must describe the difficulties that teams face and how these can be overcome."
    Prof. Paul Jackson

    Dear Students,

    Your Assignment—General Comments

    IMG_3289s.jpg

First of all let me thank you for all the work that many of you have done on this assignment-many of the assignments were well written and enjoyable to read.

It was obvious that many of you had worked very hard to achieve this—so a huge ‘well done’ to you.

Where the best students scored the marks was in using good and appropriate diagrams, using clear references as to where you had gathered your materials and had clearly identified these.

You used the theories and discussed them, giving clear examples to demonstrate your deep understanding of the learning—many congratulations to these students—you have learnt well and should, with the proper revision, pass your exams and secure good marks.

However, there were a number of students who did not do so well—so some room for improvement here!

Might I suggest some of the following areas to develop which will strengthen your work—not just in this module but in all the other modules you will take.

    1. ·Give a clear introduction, setting the context and state what theories you are going to use in examining the topic.
    2. ·Give a conclusion—tell me what you have learnt from doing the assignments and how you have reached your overall conclusions.
    3. ·Use Diagrams—they are there to be used—they save words and they can incorporate your examples into them—in other words, use them to demonstrate your understanding.
    4. ·You MUST quote your sources—tell me where you are getting your ideas from –which book, which internet set, which article and quote them precisely. You will be rewarded for this.
    5. ·If you do not quote your sources, and ‘cut and paste’ large quantities of material downloaded from the internet—then YOU MUST FAIL. This is called plagiarism and is not allowed.
    6. ·You must look at the question—you were asked to work in groups—some of you choose not to do this and this obviously would mean a failure in a coursework –you must follow the rules of the question set.
    7. ·About a 1000 words does not mean 2000 words—normally this would be penalised –usually up to 10% would be permitted.

Now let us look specifically at the question:

    1. ·You must use the theories that are given in Robbins and Coulter—you will be examined on your knowledge of this.
    2. ·There are a lot –you were asked to look at FORMAL teams, not informal, and to describe the characteristics that make them successful.
    3. ·Quite rightly many of you used the two of the diagrams in R&C—the chain and the Collaborative diagrams. Some of you used the tables from the chapter—and had these been properly referenced would have resulted in a higher appreciation of your efforts
    4. ·Very few of you used the Tuckman model but do spend time familiarising yourselves with it.
    5. ·Most of the reports were well written-demonstrating good English skills—some though needed a lot more work on them to make them understandable.

All in all though –a good effort—many of you demonstrated a good understanding of the topic and I was delighted in your success in doing this—congratulations!

To those who need to develop additional skills to get through this model—get yourselves a plan to see what time you have got left and how you might improve over the next few weeks.

I have written more detailed comments on your work—i apologise for my writing.

Once again my thanks to you all—I learnt a lot from you, you are very good students and have got excellent futures ahead of you after you finish your present studies. You get a terrific grounding here in JUFE and you have some outstanding teachers.

Kind Regards and best wishes to all.
